GOOD HEALTH MANAGEMENT OF PIGS IN SUMMER
On the evening of July 16, Professor Wu Bin from the school of animal medicine of Huazhong Agricultural University held the 15th remote video lecture on pig farms at Zhongbo "large pig farm remote video diagnosis center".
Theme of this lecture: suggestions on prevention and control of summer epidemics in large-scale pig farms
Professor Wu started from two aspects: how to manage pigs in summer and how to prevent and control summer epidemics. Professor Wu Bin first said that winter has a great impact on the health of piglets, and summer has a great impact on the health of the whole pig population. In summer, sows, boars and finishing pigs all have strong thermal emergency response. The adaptation temperature of finishing pigs is about 15 degrees. When the temperature exceeds 26 degrees, the feed intake of breeding pigs decreases significantly. Lactating sows will reduce milk secretion under high temperature, which will directly lead to malnutrition of piglets. In addition, the sudden rise of temperature is easy to cause the death of sows and finishing pigs. Professor Wu Bin stressed that the pig farm should do a good job in cooling the water in the pig pen in summer, prevent the feed from deteriorating due to high temperature, and at noon, staff should patrol the sow pen to check whether the sow has heat stress reaction.
When talking about diseases in summer pig farms, Professor Wu Bin said that it is better to control bacterial diseases through antibiotics, and Streptococcus is controlled through immunity. The old disease erysipelas is quite popular this year. We can control it by combining drugs and immunity. Colibacillosis and salmonellosis do great harm in summer, because there is much rain in summer, and the underground water source of the pig farm is polluted by other surface flowing rain. Professor Wu Bin suggested that we should seize the time period when the temperature is high in summer to eradicate the diarrhea of pigs on a large scale, so as to prevent the temperature from turning cold and the diarrhea of pigs from recurring again.
After the lecture, Professor Wu Bin had a video interactive exchange with the management personnel of the pig farm, and answered the questions of the pig farm personnel one by one. The whole lecture process is rich and practical. Some veterinary technicians from 34 standardized pig farms in Hubei Province participated in the lecture.
